Airtorch™ Air and Process-Gas Heaters

The Airtorch™ is a highly scalable electric process air heater typically utilized as shown in the Airtorch Infographic (or click on any picture on the left). Airtorches™ may also be used for augmenting or heating existing ovens and furnaces. They offer high flexibility and greater control of your process heaters.

Allowed Air/Gas Inputs: Air/Gas from compressor or blower or fan nat be attached (varies by model).   Some Airtorch models also accept high temperature feed gas as an input. Airtorch™ models are highly efficient electric process heaters (inline, cross line and independently standing models are offered).   DPF models have very low pressure drop assosiated with them. Inputs such as Gas Cylinders, Compressors, Blowers and even fans may be used depending on the model.  Fans are employed when the drop in pressure of the system is no greater than approximately 50 in. w.c. (50 in. w.c./inches of H20 is approximately 1.8psi.) This condition remains true even when the fan can output large CFM values. Blowers are considered in circumstances where larger pressure drops are present.  Click this information link more details.

Classes and Range of Exit Temperatures (room temperature is assumed as 25°C for input).  Several models available in each class.
  • LTA - Up to 900°C. LTA is a process heater for air which requires a compressed air input.
  • VTA - Up to 900°C. VTA is process gas heater with fan or blower capability.  Please also see GVTA.
  • MTA - Up to 925°C. MTA is sealed process gas heater which can take compressed air or compressed gas input
  • MVTA-DPF - Up to 1100°C These are sealed process gas heater with fan or blower capability.
  • GTA or GVTA - For high pressure vessel Airtorch use.  Custom engineering.  Please specify temperature whether less than 750°C or greater as this changes the configuaration and price. Please contact MHI directly for assistance.
  • DPF - Up to 1200°C custom.  DPF models can take fan or blower input as well as a compressed air/gas input.

  • Suggested Uses: Process heater, gas heater, gas-pre heater, air-pre heater, supplemental heater and many other process heating applications. Flow simulation whether combustion or high temperature viscous.  Tests beds.

Inlet temperatures can be high on specific models.

Pressure drop:  Very Low.  MHI offers DirectFlow™ Airtorch.  MHI uses its combined thermal knowledge across diverse equipmet offerings to optimize and provide low friction Airtorch. ftb750-6

Need higher temperatures please contact MHI.  The kW required depends on the temperature of the exit gas from the Airtorch™ models and the flow volume required.   Please use Easy Design Criterion or please use this formula to calculate approximate temperature vs. flow rate for a fixed power or an Airtorch™ model number.  MHI also provides flow rate vs. temperature for TA and DPF models.  Request Graphs.

MVTA, GVTA type Airtorches™ and LTA's may be purchased with several exit configurations which are specific to the model.  In addition further manifolding is poosible.

Every MHI Airtorch has a maximum power rating, a maximum temperature and a pressure rating (if rated to higher than 1 atmospheric pressure).  Follow the curve on Easy Design Criterion while staying inside the device ratings.  The power should be fixed close to the rated power. Please observe the limits with care.  Please maintain a low flow cutoff sensor if used close to the highest rated temperature.
