Micropyretics Heaters International believes that its furnaces should be Safe to Touch. Most of our furnaces have at least three layers of refractory, as well as forced air fan cooling within the doubled stainless steel walls. The design of furnaces is intended to keep the exterior surface temperature at 50°C or less.*

*Note that this number is a normal target for a safe touch temperature with the outside temperature at about 15°C.  The exact number may vary for your specific furnace and design.  Often, small furnaces which are meant to fit in confined spaces may display hotter surface temperatures.  Other considerations may also influence this temperature.  Please check with MHI for your specific furnace.
